Background on Mazda CX-7

The Mazda CX-7 is a sports crossover with an all-wheel drive system.

Under the bonnet the model has a 173PS MZR-CD turbo-diesel powertrain. It features a 2.2-litre engine producing up to 400Nm of torque connected to a six-speed manual transmission with an overdrive top gear ratio.

In the UK the Mazda CX-7 is sold as the Sport Tech with 19-inch alloy wheels and Xenon headlights, in a choice of five colours.

Mazda’s Active Torque four-wheel drive system distributes up to 50 per cent of engine torque to the rear wheels to maintain traction. Combined fuel economy returns 37.7mpg with carbon dioxide emissions of 199g/km, which when compared with used Mazda models, is favourable.

The cabin of the Mazda CX-7 Sport Tech is kitted out with leather seats, climate control air-conditioning, cruise control, electric windows, powered driver’s and front passenger’s heated seats, a Bose surround sound audio system with six-CD autochanger and nine speakers, plus integrated satellite navigation and Bluetooth technology.

Up to five people can be accommodated in the Mazda CX-7 with boot space of 455 litres to the belt line with the rear seats upright and 1,348 litres to the ceiling with the 60/40 split rear seats folded.

The exterior of the car has a Mazda five-point lower grille framed in silver-look detailing, front fog light bezels, chrome-plated garnish along the bottom of the doors, enhanced rear bumper design with rear moulding and a larger roof spoiler. There are seven body colours available including Aluminium Metallic, Stormy Blue Metallic Mica and Sparkling Black Mica. Also available are 18 or 19-inch alloy wheels with three-dimensional designs.

On the menu for the cabin are a centre console lid/armrest with high-resilience urethane lid, blackout meters with blue-ring illumination, white pointers and three-dimensional dials, double-roof dashboard with integrated Multi-Information Display and integrated navigation system, piano black or metallic look edging on the centre panel, air vents with chrome rings, plus front and rear door armrests with soft padding.

The Mazda CX-7’s body shell reinforcements achieve a five per cent increase in torsional rigidity.

There are weld bond reinforcements and MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension systems plus dampers. The Active Torque-Split All-Wheel Drive system is standard.

The Mazda CX-7 can include a Rear Vehicle Monitoring system that detects cars approaching from behind or driving in the blind spot and warns the driver before he changes lanes. Emergency Stop Signal automatically flashes hazard lights if the driver brakes abruptly to warn drivers of following vehicles. A rear-view system with camera assists when driving in reverse or parking.
